there's a restaurant on broadway that i've been wanting to try for a while. it's a yellow building and it always catches my eye. it's called sweet fingers, it's a jamaican place.
yesterday when driving to girlband dinner & practice (sidenote: we met at jack's where i ordered a full salad and she only made a half and i feel i paid too much even if i did only get charged for the half) i noticed a big banner outside of sweet fingers that said "Lunch Buffet 11am-3pm". I decided that i would indeed go check it out sooner than later.
this morning, when i left for work i asked randall if he wanted to grab lunch. i remembered the sign and a little after noon randall picked me up and we headed down to sweet fingers.
when we arrived the waiter/host/bartender gave us menus and said we could sit anywhere. we enquired about the buffet, he pointed in the corner and then took the menus back.
in hindsight i think this may have been a mistake.
the buffet was a little dreary. the jerk chicken was mostly jerk and not enough chicken (although after we had taken our fill the chef did fill up the container) and the cornbread was dry dry dry and untasty. i hope it's from a mix, i can't imagine a chef who is supposedly "off the hook" would make such a cornbread. and if it is from a mix, i suggest they switch brands. and the rice was just alrite. the stewed chicken, however, was really tasty. and the fried plantains were nice (a little on the soggy side, but i think that's due to the fact that it's buffet and they were sitting in the thing for a while).
overall i gave the buffet a C.
and the atmosphere was more like a club that happens to serve food in the daytime (which i think is what it's become). so the walls were really dark and it felt more like a sketchy dark dive than a fun jamaican chill atmosphere. although i'm sure if there are more than 7 people in there it might be nice.
and i do want to go back and give a real meal a try. also i've since heard they have a nice spicy house-made ginger beer. so sad i didn't know that before hand. should've guessed it though.
we should've ordered the curry goat.
i bet that's tasty.
also i like the way carrot pie sounds.

Dear Pocket Pig, Sincere appologies for your experience. Come back again. Sounds like you got the bottom of the pan of chicken that drys out from the heat. Thats not suppose to happend and I have advised my staff regarding this review and it will not happen again.
The curry goat is awesome and our jerk chicken has received rave reviews. Check out the August issue of Sacramento magazine- Our restaurant was voted best island cuisine!
Come for dinner, ask for me and I will give you a wonderful discount on your dinner. If you bring a friend I will take $12 off the second dinner.
