!feliz cinco de mayo!
 | a few weeks ago guf told the chic list about this great mexican taqueria in west sac. last week camille decided to get the location and details (via the list). she wanted to celebrate cinco de mayo with her department. since i'm on the list and work at the same company i more or less invited myself along. |
then i kinda felt funny about it.
so i univited myself.
then they reinvited me.
and i wasn't sure what to do and i decided to go. then not go. then go.
i ended up going.
i don't know why i was so retarded about it.
the place is called club reno. or at least "Taqueria Margueyos de Reno" or something like that. it's got a big sign from whatever it used to be that says "Club Reno" though.
since guf gave such great reviews of the place, i really expected to like it a lot. no, i really Wanted to like it a lot, but i ended up being disappointed.
i had the carnitas quesadilla. the carnitas were gross and dry and there wasn't that much queso. however, it was really charming and the ladies seemed really cute and nice. but the place smelled like incense (or a head shop as camille put it) and the sour cream was thick and pasty (camille thought it was plain cream, someone else thought it was a ranch based dressing and either way, it totally looked like mayonaise). However, they did have some pretty great mole sauce. it came out of a giant cauldron in the back and it was on just about everything.
the marketing intern who came with us asked for some on the side. they ended up giving her an entire plate full of it. i thought they were being too nice to her, she was really rude about asking for it. she also talked about herself a lot. i noticed she did the tactic of asking you a question about yourself so that you can answer it and she can say, "Oh this is my answer to that question."
doesn't she know that that is my patent-pending technique?

You were SO invited. We don't have a lot of these casual, non-vendor funded, non-team oriented (like when our boss pays or something), lunchy things, but when we do, I'll invite you.

I wanted to like it. Mole seemed good for mole, but I am not a mole fan. I wish I knew how to put an accent over the e so it doesn't look like I am talking about eating a burrowing animal.
I judge a place on its carnitas- and the carnitas were gross. The aqua frescas(sp?) were kept at room temperature. The sour cream was thick and gloppy.
