at 10:30 samshrew and jorn arrived at my house. they were driving my dad's new jeep suv. we were taking them back to cal and then stopping by ikea. there are these shelves i've been wanting to get and it was a perfect reason to borrow my dad's car. when samshrew arrived at my house she gave me 9 ears of corn. randall doesn't eat corn on the cob because it's "too much work." i love corn, but 9 ears?

like that one scene in bladerunner
once we dropped samshrew and jorn off, randall and i headed to this discount fabric store. i'm thinking about reupholstering the ugly couch my mom gave me. it's a really comfortable couch, but it's a bit hard on the eyes. not the world's ugliest, but it definitely wasn't created with this era in mind. we walked thru the entire store (which was huge) and nothing struck my fancy, so we didn't get anything for the couch. this is where i should mention i've never actually upholstered a couch, but i figure i've watched enough trading spaces, surely i can figure it out. after the fabric store we stopped for lunch in emeryville. there is this crazy food court near nothing. it has about 25 restaurants inside and it feels like you've walked into a sci-fi channel meets the food network show.

once we had refueled our bodies we headed over to ikea. i love and hate ikea. i love the whimsy and the practicality, but i do hate the yuppierobotness of it all. but i fall prey to it everytime. i have my billy bookshelf, my jerker desk and my benno cd shelves. and now, after today's trip i can add an expedit shelving unit to my growing yuppierobot furniture army. it's just all so practical.
