guess i won't go then
this morning i got to work and found heather in the break room. it was pretty obvious that she had just been crying. apparently her ex-boyfriend, whom she co-owns a house with (he lives there and pays mortgage, she has moved out) stopped paying the mortgage in april. and apparently the bank had just called to say that they were going to foreclose unless she came up with a boatload of money today. i wished i'd had a boatload of money to give her, but i didn't. after re-composing herself she decided she had to take care of the situation and so she left work. that meant she wouldn't be going to the gym with me at lunch. so i ended up letting bao take the car and i stayed at the office and had a salad.

like sorry pays the bills
a few weeks ago we all had our reviews and my group was given raises (small, but significant enough). but today at around 2pm the boss guy sent out an email saying, "oh oops, our bad, you're not getting raises after all." apparently there has been a pay freeze that someone forgot to tell him about. talk about a morale drainer. i think some people left. i wanted to vent, but i knew it wasn't really his fault, he wanted to give us raises. still it was really lame and honestly, sincerest apologies are great and all, but i don't think the electric company will accept payment in sincerest apologies...

hello mee, ah-jorn and ah-jorn?
after work bao and i headed over to my mom's house. samshrew is home for a few weeks and she was having her best friend, her best friend's boyfriend and her boyfriend over for dinner. it was a really weird situation, only because the last time i saw these people everyone was in high school. now they were grown-up like and talking about grown up things. it was a weird feeling. i didn't feel old, necessarily, just aware of the situation. oh and it was all so cute and nostalgic, the kind of informal/formal that i thought was only seen on television shows.
